New SDI Videos on Steel’s Performance and Tornado Doors

February 7, 2014 WESTLAKE, Ohio – The Steel Door Institute (SDI) recently created videos on Why Steel? and tornado doors.

The Why Steel? video is an overview of the performance report completed in 2012 that used test data to compare the performance characteristics of steel, wood, aluminum, and fiberglass doors. The study concluded that steel doors and frames have superior performance for strength and durability compared to alternate door materials. The Why Steel? video and report are available at

SDI’s new video on tornado doors covers the importance of specifying specialty doors in regions susceptible to tornados. It demonstrates the difference in performance of standard and specialty doors by showing footage from a tornado test performed on both doors. The video can be viewed here.
