New SDI LEED Statement Shows Available Credits
July 15, 2011 WESTLAKE, Ohio –The Steel Door Institute (SDI) has issued a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Statement. The statement was developed by the SDI Technical Committee, which is composed of experts from the 11 member companies.
LEED is the premier green building rating system. It aims to improve performance in areas such as energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, materials selection, and sustainable site development.
Products manufactured by SDI members qualify for a variety of credits in LEED’s Materials & Resources category. This is due to the recyclability of steel combined with SDI members’ environmentally-friendly methods, such as using building materials that are extracted and manufactured within the region.
Jeff Wherry, Managing Director of SDI, said, “LEED recognizes the high recycled content and reclamation rate of steel doors and frames. We are excited to have the LEED Statement on the website that provides the credits and points provided by SDI members’ products.”
